BRATISLAVA, March 21, (WEBNOVINY) — Unemployment rate in Slovakia rose 0.18 percentage points m/m to 13.16 percent at the end of February, reported the Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family on Monday. In year-on-year terms, the rate of registered unemployment went up 0.19 percentage points last month. In February 2011, the number of people without jobs was the highest since January 2005.
Labor offices registered altogether 350,969 unemployed people in the second month able to immediately start working. Compared with the end of January, this was an increase by 4,773 people and a year-on-year growth by 2,550.
The overall number of job applicants recorded by labor offices was 395,445 in late February. This is a month-on-month growth of 3,808 people and a year-on-year decrease of 760. At the end of the second month, the rate of unemployment calculated from the overall number of registered job applicants was 14.82 percent. It thus swelled by 0.14 points from the previous month, while in year-on-year terms it rose 0.08 percentage points. The average number of jobseekers for the last twelve months reached 380,739 persons, which is a drop of 64 from January and of 21,444 more from a year ago.
The influx of newly jobless people represented 26,815 last month, which was a monthly decrease by 8,774 persons and a yearly increase by 475 people. The outflow of unemployed people reached 23,007 last month, down 2,154 people m/m and up 1,373 y/y. The average registration period was 13.85 months, down 0.04 months from January and up 1.25 months from February 2010.
The joblessness rate increased in all Slovak counties. Presov County posted the highest increase of 0.25 points to 18.43 percent in February. Kosice and Nitra Counties followed, with a 0.24 points increase each to 17.78 percent and 12.64 percent, respectively. In Zilina County, the growth represented 0.18 points to 11.72 percent.
The unemployment rate in Banska Bystrica County rose 0.17 points to 19.60 percent. In Trnava County it was an increase of 0.15 points to 8.68 percent and 0.11 points in Bratislava County to 4.97 percent. The smallest rise in unemployment rate was in Trencin County, representing 0.08 points to 9.84 percent.
