Slovakia to Get EUR 90M for Energy Efficiency Projects

BRATISLAVA, November 22, (WEBNOVINY) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is to release a total of EUR 90 million destined to support approved energy efficiency projects in Slovakia within the Slovsef II credit line. Thereof, approximately EUR 72 million was allocated for projects regarding renewable energy sources and the housing sector, and EUR 18 million for projects of energy efficiency in industry, according to the disclosed information.

The EBRD has approved 65 projects in the Slovak housing sector. The projects involve in particular thermal insulation of apartments initiated by associations of apartment owners and non-residential space in the buildings. Of the approved EUR 90 million, a half has already been provided.

Slovakia has been drawing loans from the ERBD mainly for projects connected with decommissioning of two nuclear blocks of the V1 Nuclear Power Plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. The Slovak state-run nuclear decommissioning company JAVYS, a.s., in charge of the early shutdown of the power plant, has signed a total of fifteen grant agreements worth approximately EUR 204 million with the bank.
