BRATISLAVA, April 11, (WEBNOVINY) — In the first quarter of this year, the Police Corps achieved the best results in the history of independent Slovakia. Police President Jaroslav Spisiak presented the results at Monday’s news conference.

“I am satisfied with everything. The goals were defined in a way that no one believed we would fulfill them, but me,” Spisiak announced. The police president is most content with a 30 percent decrease in the number of traffic accidents. “We achieved better than planned results in all indicators of transport accidents rate. The results we have are better than planned while being better than ever,” Spisiak added. The principle that the police applied in case of accidents was to first of all protect human lives and health and only then their property. Police defined its goals for the whole year and Spisiak presents the preliminary quarterly evaluation only to be able to assess whether it was realistic to achieve them and adopt decisions where the police does not meet the aims.

The police president appreciated also results achieved in property crime, where the best results since 1989 have been achieved. According to Spisiak, the Police Corps have proved they can act as preventive agents. In spite of the best ever results, goals in this area have not been met. “We are going the right direction, suppressing criminality, but we have not met the goals,” he commented.

In the first three months of the year, the number of robberies has decreased, while the police have clarified twelve more cases than planned. Despite not succeeding in all areas, the overall set goal has been met to 100.78 percent, Spisiak concluded.
