BRATISLAVA, April 18, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) will not attend the Kiev Summit on Safe and Innovative Use of Nuclear Energy due to the coalition crisis. The press and information department at the Cabinet Office told SITA on Monday that the trip has been canceled because of “current political issues.” The prime minister was slated to deliver a speech at the summit on April 19.

The summit that will be attended by several European leaders including European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is dedicated to the latest nuclear safety trends on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl nuclear plant.

The coalition is presently struggling with the dubious rental contract for a building in Kosice that was to host the tax office. Chief of the Tax Directorate Miroslav Mikulcik (an SDKU-DS nominee) sealed a lease contract with a company of Ondrej Scurka, head of SDKU-DS district organization in Nitra. Opposition SMER-SD demands the head of Finance Minister Ivan Miklos, who nominated Mikulcik to the helm of the tax administration. The prime minister appealed on Mikulcik to take over political responsibility but he refused to abdicate. Only the finance minister can dismiss him from the post. Miklos has not yet commented on the latest development and defended the contract last week, calling it beneficial for the state.
