BRATISLAVA, May 11, (WEBNOVINY) – An inspection by the CAbinet Office Government will look into the handling of finances at the National Highway Company (NDS), Prime Minister Iveta Radicova reported Wednesday. The prime minister debated the matter with Transport Minister Jan Figel. The audit is carried out automatically in such cases, she went on to say.

Radicova has learned about the events at the NDS solely from the media. “For the time being, I’ve got only the information disseminated by the media, it is simply unpardonable,” she complained. Radicova relies on the transport minister. “I firmly believe that the minister will act briskly and that he is verifying the information, as he told us,” she announced.

The highway company planned training of its managers in a luxurious five-star hotel outside the Slovak capital. An anonymous letter drew attention to the training for some 9,000 euro and hotel services for nearly 3,000 euro. The letter was reportedly written by NDS staffers, criticizing the lavishing of money for various services. The training was canceled, officially due to the decision to terminate the contest for construction of the second stage of the Janovce-Jablonov D1 highway stretch. The NDS denied the information in the letter as false and imprecise.
