BRATISLAVA, June 28, (WEBNOVINY) – The Slovak Parliament succeeded in overturning President Ivan Gasparovic’s veto of the bill on prosecution service on Tuesday.
The head of state originally suggested several fundamental proposals for changes in the bill on prosecution service, and thus recommended the parliament not to approve it as a whole in a new debate. The bill introduces open contests for prosecutor posts, publishing decisions of the prosecution service and cancels the institute of prosecutor candidates, among other changes. Before the Parliament adopted the bill for the first time, it was slammed by the opposition as well as by several prosecutors accusing the government of trying to usurp the right of deciding who will be prosecutor.
