BRATISLAVA, July 24, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak will visit the USA on July 24 to 26 at the invitation of the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In Washington D.C., in addition to Clinton, he is expected to hold talks with other representatives of the State Department, and the Department of Defense, informed the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lajcak will meet also with representatives of the National Security Council, the U.S. Congress and he will speak at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), where he will discuss with representatives of major U.S. think tanks. Traditionally, Lajcak’s program in the United States includes a meeting with members of the Slovak expatriate community. Lajcak will discuss with his U.S. counterparts current urgent international policy issues, including the situation in the Middle East, especially Syria, Iran, a joint activities in ISAF in Afghanistan, the Western Balkans, the Eastern Partnership, and Southern neighborhood, in which Slovakia is actively engaged in Tunisia together with the Netherlands in the process of transformation of society. The subject of discussions will be the relations and cooperation between the EU and the USA and further development of the Slovakia-U.S. cooperation in all areas. The level of bilateral relations between our countries is high, as evidenced by the intense mutual dialogue, when three delegations of the U.S. Congress visited Slovakia so far this year.
Slovakia is a partner of the United States not only in the NATO operation in Afghanistan, but thanks to our experience with transformation and reform processes also in the Western Balkans, Eastern Partnership and EU-Southern neighborhood. Sharing this experience forms the basis Slovakia-U.S. cooperation in the area of development and transformation agenda, which is developing in the form of jointly funded projects aimed at promoting democracy and integration processes. Foreign partners particularly appreciate discussions with the Slovak side regarding the situation in the countries of Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans, the press department of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes in its press release about the upcoming visit.
