BRATISLAVA, August 6, (WEBNOVINY) Five members of Armed Forces and Military Police of the Slovak Republic working at the Command of the NATO military base in Kandahar have been awarded Non-Article 5 medals for service in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan. They were decorated by US Brigadier General Jeffrey B. Kendall, the Commander of Kandahar Air Field (KAF) (NATO). In his speech at the ceremonial act, Kendall gave high marks to work of all nations participating in meeting tasks in the province of Kandahar.
Among the awarded Slovak soldiers is a Slovak Lt-Col serving at KAF Command who is responsible for KAF infrastructure construction. Further two awardees work at Kandahar Air Field Joint Defense Operations Center while two military police officers with medals fulfill tasks of international military police.
The Slovak Republic has an approved mandate for 348 soldiers in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. At this point, actually deployed are 322 soldiers with 244 serving in Kandahar.
