BRATISLAVA, November 2, (WEBNOVINY) — Together 1,200 people supported the initiative of the political fairness watchdog Fair-Play Alliance Replace Trnka – Do Not Protect the Untouchable! addressed to parliamentary deputies during the past holiday weekend. The Fair-Play Alliance called on deputies to replace Dobroslav Trnka and secure election of a trustworthy person, who will introduce a fundamental reform at the Office of the Prosecutor General, in the election of the new Prosecutor General in Parliament. Journalists Juraj Kusnierik, Eugen Korda, cartoonist Martin Sutovec, musicians Jozef Luptak and Michal Kascak, psychiatrist Jozef Hasto, sociologist Olga Gyarfasova, priest Daniel Pastircak and activists Zuzana Caputova, Sarlota Pufflerova and Boris Strecansky signed the initiative on the Internet. The Open Society Foundation in Slovakia also joined the initiative.
The Fair-Play Alliance published reactions of MPs, who responded to the initiative, on its website. KDH MPs Alojz Pridal, Jana Zitnanská and Monika Gibalova declared that they would support Eva Misikova, KDH MP Anton Marcincin will support a coalition nominee even if SDKU-DS did not express its support. From the MPs club of SMER-SD, only Dusan Caplovic and Igor Choma responded to the initiative. Caplovic did not say who he would support. Choma will vote for Trnka.
Eva Misikova, currently a prosecutor serving at the Office of the Prosecutor General, will be supported by Natalia Blahova and Richard Svihura of the SaS and Kamil Krnac (SaS) will abstain. Richard Oravec of SDKU-DS wrote that he would disclose his decision after talks of the SDKU-DS deputies’ club. Jana Dubovcova will support Jan Hrivnak. Only Bela Bugar spoke on behalf of MOST-HIS and said that the party would support either Misikova or Hrivnak depending on the decision of the whole coalition.
The first round of the election of a new Prosecutor General will take place on November 3. The seven-year term of incumbent Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka ends in early 2011. Eva Misikova is a joint candidate of SaS, KDH and MOST-HID. Former judge, now SDKU-DS MP Jana Dubovcova, suggested Jan Hrivnak and Stanislav Janis of SDKU-DS proposed reelection of Dobroslav Trnka, who was also nominated by the opposition SMER-SD MP Mojmir Mamojka.
