Analysts are More Optimistic in Estimates of Economic Growth

BRATISLAVA, January 25, (WEBNOVINY) –Bank analysts‘ economic development forecast in 2011 are more optimistic versus the end of last year. In a regular survey carried out by the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), the analysts projected Slovakia’s economic growth at 3.6 percent, slightly up by 0.1 percentage points from December’s estimates.

Analysts kept estimates for Slovakia’s GDP growth unchanged at 4 percent. However they have revised the anticipated price growth for this year modestly upward and project inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) at 3.7 percent. In the last month of 2010, analysts prognosticated its rate at 3.6 percent.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), too, has increased the estimate of Slovakia’s GDP growth for this year. Based on the latest figures the local economy is expected to grow 3.7 percent compared to October’s 3.5 percent.

Prognoses offered by bank houses and the EBRD are more optimistic than the estimates of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) and the Finance Ministry. The latest official forecasts published by the central bank in December 2010 expect a 3-percent GDP growth for this year. In its prognosis from September 2010, the Finance Ministry projected Slovakia’s GDP growth at 3.3 percent.
