Almost Two Thirds of Citizens Assess Coalition Negatively

BRATISLAVA, September 11, (WEBNOVINY) – Almost two thirds of Slovak citizens (64.7 percent) perceive the ruling coalition negatively, a representative survey by MVK polling agency shows. 27.3 percent evaluated the incumbent coalition positively. 44.7 percent of respondents want Prime Minister Iveta Radicova to continue in her post, while the same number of respondents said she should be replaced.

Most people that perceive the coalition positively are SDKU-DS supporters (80.6 percent) and MOST-HID voters (60.1 percent). The group of voters that back opposition parties voiced only a marginal support for the ruling coalition: 3.2 percent of SNS voters and 4.5 percent of SMER-SD supporters.

As many as 71.3-percent of SDKU-DS supporters, 70.4 percent of MOST-HID supporters, 68.1-percent of SaS voters and 44.4 percent of KDH supporters want the incumbent coalition to continue ruling. A total of 36.3 percent of KDH voters prefer reconstruction of the coalition. 12.2 percent of SMER-SD supporters and 9.6 percent of SNS voters do not object to the idea of the quartet remaining at Slovakia’s helm until the end of this electoral term.

About half of supporters of opposition parties back the idea of early elections: 49.8 percent of SMER-SD voters and 48.5 percent of SNS supporters. The same opinion was reported with 10.2 percent of KDH voters. As for supporters of the remaining coalition parties, the popularity of this scenario ranged from 3 to 8.1 percent.

MVK carried out this poll from August 23, 2011 to August 29, 2011 on a 1,038-strong representative sample given gender, age, education, nationality and the size of seats and regions. The outcomes were presented by Pavel Haulik.
