17,400 Beneficiaries Received Commuter Contribution in 2011

BRATISLAVA, February 13, (WEBNOVINY) — Labor offices in Slovakia paid out commuter contributions to 17,400 people who were previously job seekers and applied for this form of support, according to data of the Central Office for Labor and Social Affairs. In 2010, 29,000 job seekers received the contribution. The highest number of accepted applications for the contribution was in Presov and Kosice counties in eastern Slovakia. The number of beneficiaries in Presov County reached 3,400 and in Kosice it was close to 3,300. Most beneficiaries commuted 30 to 60 km to work. Labor offices paid out almost EUR 5.2 million for this purpose from state coffers.

The contribution is intended to cover a portion of costs of traveling to and from work for an eligible person. Job seekers who were removed from the unemployment register after they signed a work contract or started self-employed activities are eligible for the contribution. Only a person who was registered as unemployed by a labor office for at least three months is eligible for this kind of allowance.
