BRATISLAVA, February 10, (WEBNOVINY) — Trade Unions Confederation (KOZ) has interrupted protest actions against the prepared changes to the Labor Code and returned to negotiations, informed KOZ President Miroslav Gazdik. However, there will be one more protest gathering against the changes in the Labor Code organized by the KOVO trade union in the Banska Bystrica region. “We were promised that on February 15, we will be able to participate in negotiations of a working group at the Labor Ministry, where we will present our views on the revision to the Labor Code,” said Gazdik.
In the period between February 15 until the end of the interdepartmental review of the draft Labor Code, the unionists will halt their protests. However, the unionists plan to continue their petition action regarding the Labor Code. “We will wait, collect signatures and tell the representatives of government how many people are for maintaining the minimum standards in the Labor Code,” Gazdik stated. Further petition procedure however will depend on the decision of KOZ top organs.
Prime Minister Iveta Radicova welcomed the unionists’ return to the negotiations on changes to the Labor Code. “Paragraph wording is prepared for discussion; we will continue in the roundtable negotiations”, she stated. In her opinion, an accord has been stricken that it is appropriate to include the so-called parental amendment in the Labor Code, to distinguish between various types of employees and to consider various types of firms regarding their size as well.
