BRATISLAVA, May 13, (WEBNOVINY)- High on the agenda of talks between Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova and her Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on a brief visit to Bratislava was Russian natural gas deliveries and also the invitation letter from 1968 that led to the Warsaw Pack invasion in Slovakia. The Russian prime minister came to Bratislava on Friday to support his country’s candidacy for the right to host the 2016 world ice hockey championship. Russia won and will stage the next championship after two other bidders, Denmark and Ukraine, withdrew their nominations at the International Ice Hockey Federation congress in Bratislava.
Radicova reported that Putin gave assurances to the Slovak side that problems with Russian natural gas supplies will not repeat while he considers diversification of routes very important for preventing the situation that occurred a few years ago. The prime ministers spoke about the crude-oil pipeline Druzhba ad new energy routes under preparation. The Slovak prime minister also opened up the issue of the invitation letter to Moscow from 1968 and said that Putin understood her arguments and is willing to provide concrete documents, in the case they exist, to Slovakia.
The prime ministers also discussed the broad-gauge railway, nuclear energy and its future, the cyclotron center in Slovakia and also military technologies and licenses, informed the Slovak Cabinet Office.
