BRATISLAVA, July 7 (WEBNOVINY)- Parliament will sit longer than this Friday, as originally scheduled. Meeting Wednesday evening, leaders of the ruling quartet agreed during the Coalition Council’s session that it is more important to have points on the agenda of the ongoing parliamentary session passed, than are the holiday plans of individual MPs. “The agenda contains very important government draft laws. While many of them are crucial for the preparation of the state budget and, therefore, it is of utmost importance that parliament deal with them,” said Prime Minister Iveta Radicova following the Coalition Council’s meeting.
The prime minister said that the problem with holidays was solved amicably as deputies made the decision on their own and announced they would continue the current session. “It is their obligation,” stated the prime minister.
Radicova listed, among the most important points on the agenda of the current session of parliament, the amendment of the law on bankruptcy, the draft of the unified collection of taxes, customs duties and payroll levies and a duo of bills from the Environment Ministry’s workroom through which European directives are to be applied. Regarding the European directives, Radicova emphasized that if Slovakia does not approve the EU legislation, it might face very high fines of EUR 750,000, in both cases. The prime minister also mentioned the amendment to the traffic law prepared by the Interior Ministry and deregulation of rental in restituted houses, from the workroom of Transport Minister Jan Figel.
