BRATISLAVA, August 6, (WEBNOVINY)- Defense Minister Lubomir Galko (SaS) suspects that Deputy Speaker of Parliament Robert Fico (SMER-SD) has information he should not have at his disposal. “There exists an extremely serious suspicion that somebody has abused the Military Intelligence Service,” reported Galko. Certain statements former prime minister and SMER-SD leader Robert Fico made for the media on Thursday could be based only on information Fico or somebody else obtained from the security file of the checked person, stated Galko.
The other possibility, continued Galko, is that somebody had access to information from the ongoing security check. If it is confirmed that either the ex-prime minister or somebody else from a narrow group of people who have access to this kind information unlawfully got acquainted with this information and shared it, then lawyers will have to judge whether a crime was committed or not, said Galko after the sitting of the Parliamentary Committee overseeing the Military Intelligence Service.
The Committee met on Friday to deal with Milan Hudec, whom Galko temporarily suspended from the post of the Slovak Military Intelligence Service head due to inconsistencies in his security clearance.
Galko said he would insist that Fico explains where he got information he revealed for the media, but Galko did not elaborate on when he intends to speak with Fico since Galko wants to go through the matter first. However, Galko said he has already appointed a commission which will check whether the information was leaked. “Because these are serious matters,” he said.
Fico informed on Thursday that Milan Hudec managed to recall some officers during the short time he held the top job as the Head of the Slovak Military Intelligence Service. “Robert Fico said many things he should not have and said information he should not have,” says Galko.
Fico further stated he was shocked by the situation in the Slovak Military Intelligence Service. Slovakia is allegedly a witness of gross violations of laws which endangers the entire security system and causes a serious disruption of credibility as a NATO member state. „This man [Hudec] walked around the Slovak Military Intelligence Service for a week and familiarized himself with secret information,“ Fico criticizes. The General Prosecutor’s Office is already dealing with the scandal, according to Fico.
