Industrial Growth in Slovakia Decelerated

BRATISLAVA, September 8, (WEBNOVINY) — The growth rate of industrial output in Slovakia decelerated in July to 16.8 percent from June’s 23.5 percent. According to data of the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic, behind the development was a 21.5 percent growth in industrial manufacturing, and a 0.3 percent growth in supplies of electric energy, gas, steam and cooled air. On the other hand, output declined in mining and extraction of mineral raw materials by 7.1 percent.

With the exception of the production of coke and other crude oil refined products which decreased 10.7 percent y/y and the production of wooden and paper products and printed materials, which dropped 1.9 percent, all other industrial sectors reported an increase in production in the seventh month. Production of computers, electronic and optical devices saw the steepest improvement of 58.1 percent. The Statistics Office further reported a 50.7 percent increase in production of machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere, and a 48.2 percent rise in the production of transport means. The production of metals and metallic structures except for machinery and equipment went up 4.4 percent and other production, repairs, and installation of machines and equipment swelled by 21.2 percent.
