Transport Ministry has a Wider Agenda

ATISLAVA, November 2, (WEBNOVINY) — The Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, which as of November 1 gained new competencies in the area of construction, regional development and tourism along with the new name, will have 168 more employees than until now. The new ministry, which previously operated under the name of Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications, will have 573 employees instead of the previous 405. The ministry will take in 139 employees from the former Ministry of Construction and Regional Development and 29 from the Economy Ministry. In line with the amended competency act, as of January of next year, the ministry will take over coordination of the EU structural funds from the Cabinet Office, too.

According to the ministry’s statement that its spokesman Martin Krajcovic provided to SITA news agency, the ministry wants to use the synergy effect of construction of road infrastructure and of the new bearing areas of its competencies. The ministry expects to reduce costs as now areas which were distributed among several departments before the merger, are concentrated at the new ministry.

The new Transport Ministry will also be in charge of public works, construction order, area planning except its ecological aspects, construction output and products, housing policy, provision of the state bonus for home saving and the state contribution to special mortgage products, tourism, energy efficiency of buildings, and municipal development.

Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development Jan Figel will present the vision of the ministry’s operation with wider competencies in the coming days.
