BRATISLAVA, May 7, (WEBNOVINY) – As much as 83 percent of Slovaks want to know the profit of private companies that win state contracts in public tenders. Only eight percent of people are not interested in the companies‘ profit. This stems from a telephone survey carried out by Polis Slovakia agency in cooperation with SITA news agency between April 30 and May 3 on a sample of 865 adult respondents. The poll participants were asked whether the profit of private firms that carry out state contracts based on public tenders should be made public. Nine percent of those polled could not answer the question.
Polis Slovakia and SITA agencies wanted to know the Slovaks’ stance on the profit volume from state contracts. They asked the respondents whether the amount of profit from state orders should be limited by law. 57.7 percent of those polled declared a positive stance, one in three respondents does not want a limit set on the profit of private companies from state orders. 9.5 percent of those polled could not answer the question.
The public also had the chance to compare the approach of the incumbent and previous governments to public tenders. In response to the question of which government shows/showed bigger effort for transparent public procurement free of corruption and cronyism, one in three respondents said the government of Iveta Radicova is more transparent, while one in five believes the government of Robert Fico tried to achieve transparency harder. On the other hand, more than one in five respondents believes that neither of the governments is interested in transparency of public procurement. 12.2 percent of those polled could not answer the question.
