Deloitte Sees VW as Most Successful Slovak Company in 2010

BRATISLAVA, September 8, (WEBNOVINY) — The number of Slovak companies in CE Top 500 ranking, listing companies with the biggest revenues from sales in the region of central and southeast Europe, shrank from 29 to 28 in yearly terms. Carmaker Volkswagen leads Slovak companies in the ranking, although having moved down to 21st place. According to Deloitte’s CE TOP 500 ranking, crude oil refinery Slovnaft was Slovakia’s second most successful company ranking 31st. Samsung Electronics assumed 33rd position. Six Slovak companies made it among top 50 companies,“ stated Deloitte.

After two years of cost-cutting in companies seeking to boost productivity and effectiveness in organizations across the whole region, almost 80 percent of the top 500 central-European companies reported higher sales in 2010 than the year before. “Revenues of the Slovak companies listed in the CE Top 500 ranking totaled EUR 500 billion, which was EUR 25 billion less than a year ago. Their share in revenues of all listed companies thus fell 0.2 percentage points to 5.9 percent,” said President of Deloitte Slovensko Vladimir Masar.

The Zilina-based plant of the South Korean car manufacturer Kia Motors Slovakia registered the biggest improvement among all companies listed in the ranking with the most dynamic 71-percent growth. “The steelworks U.S.Steel Kosice posted one of the most important growths with sales having soared 42 percent in yearly terms and thus closed the group of six Slovak companies which managed to achieve a top 50 ranking,” specified Deloitte.
