The Cabinet approved the bill on the protection of the assets in the gas industry on Wednesday. The economy ministry wants to protect the gas utility SPP from so-called Ducky’s promissory notes.

The state wants to protect its largest gas company Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP) from enforcement proceedings. Ministers passed the bill on the protection of the assets in the gas sector at the cabinet’s session on Wednesday. “We need to provide the holder of the permission for gas supplies – a supplier of the last resort and a legal entity with the 100-percent state stake – with the privilege of immunity from enforcement proceedings in regard to company’s equity participation in other entities,“ the economy ministry stated in the explanatory memorandum. If the Parliament passes the bill approved by the Cabinet, the gas company will have only partial enforcement immunity. “ The assets of the entity which present its equity participation will be the the subject to the enforcement immunity. Not absolute, only partial enforcement immunity will be granted,“ the economy ministry explained.
