BRATISLAVA, May 31, (WEBNOVINY) — The opposition SMER SD of ex-prime minister Robert Fico is boosting its position on the Slovak political scene. Its preferences achieved 47.1 percent in early May, up 2 percentage points from two months ago, According to the May 4-10 survey by the Focus agency among 1,049 respondents, the party would occupy 80 seats in the 150-member Slovak Parliament.
The ruling coalition leader SDKU-DS ended up second harvesting 12.2 percent in the Focus poll. The party of Mikulas Dzurinda however lost over four percentage points and would have 21 representatives in parliament. In contrast, the coalition’s KDH improved to 9.5 percent, being the third strongest political party with 16 lawmakers The opposition SNS improved too, garnering 8.1 percent of the vote accounting for 14 parliamentary seats. The coalition’s MOST-HID with 6.1 percent corresponding to ten MPs and the SaS with 5.2 percent (nine MPs) would complete the list of Slovakia’s parliamentary parties.
The survey shows that 20.3 percent of respondents would not attend the elections and 16.3 percent said that ‚do not know‘ or ‚do not want to answer.‘ Preferences were calculated from the remaining 63.4 percent of respondents representing potential voters.
