Ministry to Buy 26,000 Pistols for the Police for EUR 8.5M

BRATISLAVA, June 3, (WEBNOVINY) — The Slovak Ministry of Interior is planning to buy a total of 26,000 new pistols using caliber 9 mm Luger ammunition in three sizes for the police. It has sent the relevant notice of the tender on Friday to the Public Procurement Bulletin. The department led by Minister Daniel Lipsic (KDH) plans to procure 500 units of the standard size pistols, 24 000 in compact size and 1500 pistols in subcompact size. New pistols should be more effective than existing ones. Slovak police currently uses 20-year-old CZ pistols.

Estimated cost of the new pistols is 8.5 million euros excluding VAT. The criterion for selecting the successful bidder will be the lowest price. The Ministry of Interior will conclude with the successful bidder a framework contract for four years. „Our intention is that the police officers receive new pistols already this year, “ said Lubomira Miklovicova of the Office of the Minister of Interior. By rearming the Police Corps, the department wants to be more efficient in the fight against crime, better protect citizens and the police themselves, who are putting their lives and health at risk every day.
