The economy ministry opines that the new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice should be built after shutting down two nuclear blocks of EBO V2.
The construction of the new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice is unnecessary in the coming years, the economy ministry says. “The construction of larger energy installations will be unnecessary in order to achieve the balance between electricity consumption and generation until 2030 provided the ongoing construction of energy sources is completed and renewable energy projects carried out,“ stated the ministry in its regular annual report on safety of electricity supplies. The ministry states that the best scenario would be to build the new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice once the two existing nuclear blocks of EBO V2 are shut down. The parallel operation of the new 1,200 MW nuclear power plant and two existing blocks with more than 1,000 MW capacity would require additional vast investments in the transmission lines. “In regard to the overall balance of the regulated area in Slovakia, the construction of the new nuclear source would be more effective if it replaced the existing nuclear power plant EBO V2,“ the ministry stated.
