The economy ministry is expected to introduce the action plan for the Upper Nitra region soon.

Slovak households may stop contributing for the subsidies for national coal extraction in five years. Economy Minister Peter Ziga says that the validity of the general economic interest in connection with coal extraction may come to an end in 2023. Under this interest, all electricity consumers chip in for subsidies for mining of national coal used for electricity generation in their electricity bill. Currently, electricity consumers contribute with roughly 115 million euros per year. Economy Minister says that cancelling the general economic interest earlier is unrealistic. “The year 2019 is absolutely unrealistic. I will not let the opposition to dictate the pace. We know what to do. A social reconciliation for the Upper Nitra region must be ensured. We must show these people alternatives that we have prepared for them,“ Ziga said.
