BRATISLAVA, April 6, (WEBNOVINY) — If the SaS party candidate for the head of the National Security Office (NBU) Jan Stano is not accepted, the junior member of the ruling coalition will propose a new candidate, said its party Richard Sulik. “If this is a cardinal problem, we will propose another candidate. We have enough candidates to chose the new head of NBU in a short time,” Sulik said at a press conference Wednesday. According to the SaS chairman, the Coalition Council agreed Monday that the candidate for the post would be submitted by SaS.
As Sulik told journalists, there is no conflict between Christian Democrats, their partner from the four-party coalition, and his party regarding the candidate for the head of the security office. “I would not speak of a dispute. Relations are correct,” he stated. SaS proposed Jan Stano as candidate for the new NBU head at Monday’s Coalition Council session. There were several voices from coalition partners who objected to the fact that the SaS nominee worked for the SIS when it was headed by Ivan Lexa, when Vladimir Meciar was the prime minister, and the SIS was suspected of participating in unlawful activities.
