BRATISLAVA, April 12, (WEBNOVINY) — Rejected candidate of the SaS party for the post of the National Security Office (NBU) chief Jan Stano has been working with the institution as of early April. He serves as an aide of the NBU deputy director, however he will quit the post by the end of this month, SaS leader Richard Sulik assured journalists on Tuesday. He explained that Stano had taken up the post in order to get the necessary insight. “After we have agreed that we will not nominate Jan Stano to the NBU top post, he will no longer work there, so he will end this mission,” said Sulik.

The SaS head explained that he had asked NBU Director Frantisek Blanarik to hire Stano, as he did not expect that coalition partners might refuse Stano’s nomination. ‘If I had foreseen their reservations, I would not have done so, I acted in good faith. I suggested to Blanarik to employ Mr. Stano as of April 1,” said Sulik. Sulik underscored that Stano si not to get any severance pay; his salary of an aide is around EUR 900, and that is all.

Sulik expects that Blanarik will remain serving at NBU until the end of May, as parliament first has to elect his replacement. The next session of parliament convenes on May 17.

The liberal party SaS has to propose a new candidate for the NBU director after its coalition partners objected to Jan Stano, nominated a week ago, because he worked for the intelligence service, the SIS, when it was led by Ivan Lexa. The spy service is believed to have been involved in illegal activities that time.
