BRATISLAVA, August 4, (WEBNOVINY) – The period in which the government of Robert Fico ruled was a period of darkness, according to Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulik (SaS). In the debate on the government’s draft program statement, Sulik went on to say that the only project that the former government launched and carried out itself was the introduction of the e-toll system. Adoption of the euro and Slovakia’s accession to the Schengen zone were projects already started by the previous government, Sulik pointed out.
Sulik stressed that the new government would increase transparency and fight against corruption. “It cannot be said that transparency bloomed over the last four years,” the Speaker of Parliament said. Corruption has always been here since the fall of communism twenty years ago, but “in the last four years, we experienced corruption in an extent I have never dreamed about. Those were even grotesque scenes, how stealing was done,” Sulik remarked.
One of the ambitions of the new government is transparency. Sulik noted that in this era where the Internet is a common thing, “to have something like a notice-board tender is a big display of big shame.” He believes that the government led by Iveta Radicova will “do much” in the area of transparency.
In the next four years, a considerable reformation of mandatory social security system will be introduced. “We will introduce solidarity into the first [pay-as-you-go pension] pillar; make the system simpler and fairer,” he said. Sulik admitted that the second government of Mikulas Dzurinda was insensitive in some of its steps. “Iveta Radicova definitively will not make this mistake,” Sulik added.
