BRATISLAVA, December 5, (WEBNOVINY) – The coalition quartet will decide on further steps in relation to the election of the prosecutor general at the Coalition Council on Monday. For the time being, the election has ended up as failure of the coalition candidates three times; the two rounds of the first election and the first round of the second ballot were unsuccessful. In the last election, incumbent Prosecutor General nominated by the opposition party SMER-SD Dobroslav Trnka garnered a vote more than the candidate of the coalition Jozef Centes. Some coalition deputies namely voted for Trnka.

Leader of MOST-HID Bela Bugar and Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Pavol Hrusovsky (KDH) talk about a serious crisis and an unprecedented violation of trust among the coalition parties. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova again confirmed her intention to resign from her post if Trnka is reelected. In her words, the Cabinet pledged to bring in a change to the judiciary but now it seems that those coalition deputies who voted for Trnka have changed their opinion and attitude to the government program statement.

Christian Democrats proposed on Thursday that the secret ballot be changed to a public election. The same party on Saturday suggested combining the election of the prosecutor general with the vote of confidence in the government. At present, the declassification of the ballot is supported only by SDKU-DS, while the three remaining coalition partners, including Christian Democrats, are not in favor of this initiative, arguing that rules should not be modified during the game. Thus, the Coalition Council will also decide whether the election and the confidence vote will be put together.

The election of the prosecutor general will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
