Deputy will Keep her Parliamentary Seat after SNS Party Expulsion

BRATISLAVA, February 4, (WEBNOVINY) — Following her expulsion from the opposition SNS party, Anna Belousovova told reporters she would continue to serve in parliament as independent deputy. She has not disclosed whether she would establish a new party or join an existing one. “I will be true to ideals of a genuine national party. I do not know how to do any other politics than national. Today, the Slovak nation does not have an offer of national politics,” Belousovova told Friday’s news conference. Being expelled from the party, she does not see a reason to be a member of the SNS caucus. According to Belousovova, she has the support of three of eight MPs for the SNS party, as well as several members of regional party structures, but not district or regional leaders, as they have been replaced.

The leadership of the opposition parliamentary party SNS unanimously decided to expel former deputy chairperson Anna Belousovova from the party on Wednesday. They explained the decision saying that she was unable to cope with the situation when her power ambitions in the party could not be fulfilled. “Her lust for power and unfulfilled expectations made of her a symbol of quarrelsomeness and hidden aggression on the Slovak political scene. She confirmed arrogance by her conduct when she neither attended in the meeting of the deputy club nor at the session of party leadership where she could have defended herself,“ the SNS explained the expulsion. The SNS leadership urged the former party senior official to leave parliament and return her deputy mandate to the party.
