BRATISLAVA, November 21, (WEBNOVINY) — The rate of registered unemployment in Slovakia decreased by 0.08 percentage points month-over-month to 13.29 percent in October. The Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family reported that the number of jobseekers able to take up a job immediately reached 354,643 in the observed period. Compared with September, the number dropped by 2,007 persons.

On the whole, labor offices registered 390,125 jobless persons in the tenth month, which was a m/m decline by 434. The unemployment rate calculated from the overall number of jobseekers represented 14.62 percent, which was 0.02 percentage points less than in September of this year.

As Director of the Central Labor Office Ivan Juras said on Monday, the outflow of jobseekers last month represented 30,500. More than 19,000 of them, or 62.4 percent found permanent jobs. Employers’ interest in hiring on permanent contracts increased after the amended Labor Code took effect. The change in the labor legislation was thus the right step, Juras commented. New jobs were created for instance in the Belgian LVD Company in Tornala, in Gelnica industrial park, and in Kia near Zilina where the third working shift was opened, that stimulated hiring in the carmaker’s suppliers, too.

The inflow of jobseekers in October was 30,066, down 28.19 percent or 11,801 from September.

With regard to regions, unemployment rate in Banska Bystrica County was the highest at 19.33 percent. Presov County was next with 18.62 percent, Kosice County third with 18.56 percent. A double-digit joblessness rate was also in Nitra County and Zilina County, namely 12.79 percent and 11.58 percent, respectively. Bratislava has traditionally the lowest unemployment rate of 5.43 percent.
