BRATISLAVA, January 31, (WEBNOVINY) — President of the Supreme Court Stefan Harabin considers nomination of politicians – members of parliament – to the Judicial Council to be against the fundamental constitutional principals of democracy and rule of law, spokesman for the Supreme Court Michal Jurci told SITA news agency.

“I regret to say that it has been confirmed that Minister of Justice Lucia Zitnanska was only assigned one task – take over control of the judiciary. She could not care less about everything else that concerns the judiciary. She does not take notice of cases of people who are unable to claim their rights or solve everyday problems at courts,“ announced Supreme Court President and Chairman of the Judicial Council Stefan Harabin. He claims that it is highly probable that after tenure of minister Zitnanska elapses, thousands of old cases will flood courts owing to bad management of courts.

“Minister of Justice Lucia Zitnanska is assuming her earlier routine when courts were cancelled and the whole judicial system was falling apart. She left overpriced tenders, purchases for dozens of millions of euro, and unresolved reimbursement of Holocaust victims at the ministry. The history repeats itself,“ said Harabin.

In an interview on Saturday, Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska responded to the question of the SME daily of whether it was true that parliament would elect SDKU and KDH MPs Jana Dubovcova and Radoslav Prochazka as members of the Judicial Council by saying that “various names are considered but I personally would find this a good solution.“

Stefan Harabin apparently does not see a problem in his return to the post of Supreme Court President straight from the position of Minister of Justice during the previous election term.
