BRATISLAVA, July 15, (WEBNOVINY) – The opposition SNS considers the request of Speaker of Parliament and SaS leader Richard Sulik who urged President Ivan Gasparovic on Thursday to appoint the new prosecutor general blatant pressure on the head of state and a display of disrespect against him. ‘It is an unprecedented display of lack of political culture in Slovakia’s history,“ says SNS First Deputy Chairman Andrej Danko. According to him the ruling coalition is definitively nervous that the Prosecutor General Office still operates independently and cannot for now fulfill their political plans under the leadership of their elected nominee. Danko thinks that parliament should more thoroughly control the government and not the president. “It has no right to do so,” Danko said.

The speaker of parliament did not succeed with the appeal of 76 MPs requesting the appointment of Jozef Centes to the post of Prosecutor General at his visit of President Ivan Gasparovic on Thursday. “We hold the position that it is Mr. President’s obligation to appoint the prosecutor general without unnecessary delay,” said Sulik at a press conference after the meeting was over. After the Constitutional Court withdrew its preliminary injunction regarding the legislation on electing the Prosecutor General, these deputies see no reason for why Centes should not be installed into office.
