BRATISLAVA, December 16, (WEBNOVINY) – Harmonized inflation stagnated at 1 percent in the eleventh month of this year. A similar pace of price growth measured by the EU methodology close to 1 percent has been persisting in Slovakia since July, except for August and September which reported a slightly higher increase at 1.1 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew 0.3 percent, while they stagnated in October versus September. “The average twelve-month inflation stood at 0.6 percent in November and grew 0.1 percentage points from October,” informed the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic.
In a year-over-year comparison, the authority reported the steepest growth with prices of food and soft drinks (+5 percent). These were followed by prices related to education (+4.5 percent), prices of miscellaneous goods and services (+2.4 percent), prices for health services (+2.2 percent), prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+2.1 percent), prices in hotels, cafes and restaurants (+1.3 percent) and prices for relaxation and culture (+0.9 percent). In contrast, prices of furniture, household furnishings and common house maintenance fell by 2.7 percent. Furthermore, prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels shrank by 1.7 percent, prices of transport by 0.6 percent and prices of postal and telecommunication services along with prices of clothing and footwear by an identical 0.2 percent.
In monthly terms, prices of foodstuffs and soft drinks grew 1.3 percent. Prices of clothing and footwear ticked up 0.3 percent. Prices of furniture, household furnishings, prices of common house maintenance and prices of transport reported an identical increase by 0.2 percent. Prices of housing and energies, of education and prices in hotels, cafes and restaurants went up by 0.1 percent. On the other hand, prices of postal and telecommunications services dropped 0.4 percent and miscellaneous goods and services were 0.1 percent lower from October. Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, prices of health services and prices for culture and relaxation services did not change from the previous month.
