BRATISLAVA, October 18, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic does not fear that there will not be enough professionals available to construct a caretaker Cabinet. “I’m convinced that there are enough experts in Slovakia who are not bound to any political party and who would be able to hold these offices responsibly in this timeframe until the end of March,” Gasparovic told representatives of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry at their meeting this Tuesday.

Gasparovic also noted that he has no specific name in mind connected to any ministries in an eventual caretaker Cabinet. He underlined that he would like to resolve the constitutional crisis in accordance with the constitution. However, he did not specify what exactly he had in mind; he is planning to wait for a meeting with heads of parliamentary parties on Thursday evening. “We will look for a solution that does not deviate from the framework of provisions of the constitution,” said the president.

When the Cabinet loses a confidence vote in the Slovak Parliament — as happened a week ago — the president is obliged to dismiss that Cabinet. The constitution, however, does not specify which steps follow, leading to ambiguity about which Cabinet should rule the country until the early election is held in March 2012, in this case.
