BRATISLAVA, September 5, (WEBNOVINY) – Slovakia’s President Ivan Gasparovic and his spouse are to leave for the first official visit to Malta on Monday afternoon. The head of state will be accompanied by Economy Ministry State Secretary Kristian Takac and a group of entrepreneurs as well as representatives of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In addition to a meeting with Malta’s President George Abela in the capital of Valetta, Gasparovic is to meet with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and opposition leader Joseph Muskat. In honor of victims of world wars, the president is to lay a wreath at a memorial in Floriana.

During the visit of the Slovak president to the island, an economic forum for entrepreneurs and representatives of chambers of commerce will be held with the aim to boost bilateral trade. Mutual trade in 2009 represented EUR 11 million, while in 2010 it was just EUR 10 million. Slovakia maintains a moderate trade surplus with Malta.
