BRATISLAVA, February 17, (WEBNOVINY) – The independent MP Igor Matovic says that the decision of his mates from the Ordinary People faction to stay in the SaS parliamentary caucus is a happy medium. Matovic underlined that according to their agreement with SaS the trio stays in the caucus only until he establishes a new political party. “With accepting this compromise, they accepted this position; we in fact prevented an unnecessary battle in the media or a war between us and SaS the threat of which would have become imminent if they had quit instantly,” explained Matovic at a news conference on Thursday. He added that if this had happened SaS would have demanded them to return their deputy mandates. The three Ordinary People MPs would have resisted this, what would have just led to an unnecessary “war”, which Slovakia does not need, claims Matovic. He does not want that any suspicions circulate of buying, influencing, or pushing these MPs into corner. He also perceives it very personally, when his three colleagues are being condemned now, that they betrayed him, that they decided to cooperate with Sulik, who had bought them, or that they succumbed to the pressure of Prime Minister Iveta Radicova.
Matovic also refused allegations that the step of the Ordinary People MPs has something in common with the announced departure of the Economy Ministry State Secretary Martin Chren. “That we would demand this as a requirement? Definitely not. We simply have nothing to do with Martin Chren leaving his office,” stated Matovic. He reminded that he supported Chren’s departure when the Hayek Consulting case cumulated. Matovic thinks that it would have been the right solution, he, however, refused to elaborate on Chren’s current step.
