BRATISLAVA, October 26, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Foreign Minister Mikulas Dzurinda issued a statement welcoming the elections to Tunisian constituent assembly that will be charged with writing a new constitution which took place on October 23 is a great victory of the citizens of Tunisia, which started the so-called Arab Spring by overthrowing their president’s authoritarian regime. “Almost 90 percent voter turnout shows great engagement of the Tunisians in active participation in further development in the country and their determination to share democratic values. I believe that the new Tunisian government will continue with started political, economic, and social reforms in the country and that the new constituent assembly will soon prepare a constitution which will be later ratified in a referendum,” writes Dzurinda in a statement sent to SITA news agency.
He also informed that Slovakia is ready to further support the process of democratic changes in Tunisia on a partnership basis. Together with the Netherlands, Slovakia took over the patronage over Tunisian democratization at a conference in July of the Community of Democracies in Vilnius. United States’ Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appreciated Slovak efforts at that time.
