BRATISLAVA, July 16, (WEBNOVINY) – Technical means used in Slovakia to protect the country’s eastern border attracted attention of the United States. During the talks of Slovak Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic and US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano held in Washington D.C., representatives of the United States showed a lively interest in detailed information about these security features as the U.S. has been struggling to eliminate the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border for long. Slovakia and the United States started to exchange information and experience regarding security a few years ago. “The United States is one of Slovakia’s major partners not only in international institutions but also at the level of police corps and other units of the Interior Ministry. It seems that our mutual cooperation is getting a new dynamics and I am very pleased with it,” the Slovak minister said as his official visit overseas neared the end.

Lipsic invited Napolitano to Bratislava, where the representatives of the Slovak Interior Ministry and the United States Department of Homeland Security could seal the so-called Implementation Agreement on the internal security of the United States. The agreement is to specify the fields of cooperation, presently governed by the Agreement between the Slovak Republic and the United States of America on enhancing cooperation in preventing and combating crime. As spokesperson for the Slovak Interior Ministry Gabor Grendel reported, both Lipsic and Napolitano perceive the mutual cooperation as excellent.
