BRATISLAVA, November 12, (WEBNOVINY)- The Commander Kandahar Airfield, Brigadier General Jeffrey Kendall of the United States Air Force has thanked the Slovak engineer unit serving on ISAF mission in Afghanistan. “He praised professional work of members of the unit on boosting security of coalition forces at the base,” Deputy commander of the Slovak contingent in Afghanistan and its spokesman Milan Vanga has said. During his visit of the Slovak camp Kendall met with the commander of the Slovak contingent Stefan Acsai. They spoke about security issues in the turbulent region.
Vanga underscored that Kandahar Airfield (KAF), which is the key base in the most dangerous southern part of Afghanistan having 30,000 members is NATO’s biggest base worldwide. The Slovak guard unit provides security to coalition forces at KAF while Slovakia‘ multi-functional engineer unit builds security elements there. This is why the general emphasized the importance of the Slovak Republic’s contribution to the ISAF operation during his talks with the commander of the Slovak contingent, said Vanga.
The Slovak Republic has an approved mandate for 348 soldiers in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. At this point, actually deployed are some 320 soldiers with 244 serving in Kandahar.
