BRATISLAVA, October 17, (WEBNOVINY) — KDH Chairman Jan Figel can imagine negotiations the result of which would be an offer for the SaS party to fill the vacant position of deputy speaker of parliament. One deputy parliament speaker post has been vacant after the plenum recalled Richard Sulik (SaS) from the post of speaker of parliament on Friday and his deputy Pavol Hrusovsky (KDH) took up the top parliamentary post. “If it helps the functioning of parliament and agreements mainly on the content of work so that the parliament handles the budget and some legislative topics, then I can imagine such talks. Stability of state has to be the core interest of all,” said Figel in parliament on Monday.

Figel underscored that the discussion on filling the vacancies in the legislative body is the parliament’s business. He assumes that the topic will be discussed at the session of the parliament’s gremium slated for Tuesday, 9 a.m. “I suppose that the SaS can logically come up with the topic at this level,” he stated.

Figel is reserved regarding further operation of the ministers for the SaS in the cabinet. “If somebody topples his own government, then it is at least strange to wish to continue as its part. Political culture or integrity is more or less an appeal addressed to SaS representatives in order that they leave on their own instead of leaving it on others,” stated Figel. He said that further steps will first of all depend on the outcome of political talks with President Ivan Gasparovic planned to start at 3 PM Monday afternoon.

According to the information of SITA news agency from the circles of the former ruling coalition, ministers for SaS might remain Cabinet members until the early elections in March. The SaS parliamentary caucus head Jozef Kollar could become the new deputy speaker of parliament while his probable replacement would be Richard Sulik. In this situation, the SaS is willing to continue supporting the government in parliament. Kollar stated earlier on Monday that it is a tradition that the third strongest parliamentary party has the post of deputy speaker.
