BRATISLAVA, October 20, (WEBNOVINY) — Leaders of the SDKU-DS, SaS, KDH and MOST-HID former ruling coalition parties came to Thursday’s meeting with President Ivan Gasparovic with an agreement based on which the Cabinet of Iveta Radicova should be able to lead the country into early elections. KDH leader Jan Figel said after the meeting that in the event a confidence vote in the government of Iveta Radicova has to be held again, the SaS party, led by Richard Sulik, will support Radicova’s government.

As Figel said, KDH is ready to support an amendment to the constitution to enable President Ivan Gasparovic to dismiss the Cabinet of Iveta Radicova, which lost a confidence vote in parliament, and at the same time authorize her to remain at the helm of an interim Cabinet that will lead the country into early elections. “I consider the return of the SaS party to support for the current government an important step toward stability of Slovakia,” Figel said, adding that the parliament’s work in the recent days has shown that, too.

MOST-HID Chairman Bela Bugar confirmed that the coalition partners found an accord that does not need the support of the opposition SMER-SD party. They were looking for a different solution as on Wednesday SMER-SD leader Robert Fico refused to support an amendment to the constitution. Richard Sulik added that Fico had “better decide what he wants and stop fooling around. We are going to support an amendment to the constitution.” The agreement with the SaS party should be connected with the entire coaliton’s support for specific draft bills that SaS submitted to parliament. The SaS party changed its originally negative stance, as it did not want to allow a constitutional crisis.
