BRATISLAVA, September 7, (WEBNOVINY) — American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham) has some reservations regarding the draft amendment to the Labor Code that will be discussed at the upcoming session of the Slovak Parliament. After a meeting of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family, Branislav Ondrus, with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham board member Branislav Sebo specified their objections. „We have raised out comments to limitation of successive definite term work contracts, overtime work, flexi-account and strengthening of the position of trade unions,“ he said.

According to him, these are areas that are very important, since overall they influence decisions of businesses. According to Sebo, the Labor Code is one of the key documents that determines how companies will operate on the Slovak market.

State Secretary Ondrus said he was aware that some of the changes in the Labor Code will mean higher costs for companies. „We think we have set these changes so that the increased costs would not be liquidating, or reduce competitiveness of businesses,“ he said. In his opinion, the amended Labor Code could have a positive impact on the economy as a whole. „These changes should contribute to an increase in disposable income of households and we need to start household consumption as one of the factors that can help sustain and accelerate economic growth,“ he said Ondrus.
