Economy Minister Peter Ziga is convinced that the 400-MW source should not be in the hands of the company that the state has no influence on.
This autumn, the regional power producer and distributor company Zapadoslovenska Energetika (ZSE), in which the state has a 51-percent stake, bought the gas-steam power plant Malzenice based on an agreement of both shareholders. Economy Minister Peter Ziga is convinced that this was a strategic move for the state in the power sector. „The state has an influence on a 400-MW source. I think that such a large source that Slovakia has should not come into the possession of another structure that we have no impact on, because it costs several hundreds of millions to build such a source and we purchased it much cheaper,“ Ziga said after the Cabinet’s meeting. He declined to specify how much the company ZSE paid for this combined cycle power plant. „It was a favorable price,“ Ziga said, adding that the gas-steam power plant would be favorable for the state even if it did not constantly generate electricity.
