BRATISLAVA, January 21, (WEBNOVINY) — The unemployment rate in Slovakia last December rose by 0.50 percentage point month-on-month to 14.44 percent. Unemployment at the end of last month was thus the highest since May 2004, when it reached 14.47 percent, informed the Central Office for Labor, Social Affairs and Family. In annual terms, registered unemployment rate last month rose by 0.85 percentage points. The number of job seekers able to start work immediately reached 390,111 people. In monthly terms it increased by 13,473 persons, and annually it increased by 27,683 persons.
Registered unemployment rate rose month-on-month in all regions of Slovakia. The highest growth, by 0.82 percentage points to 20.81 percent was in Banska Bystrica County. Above-average unemployment was also in Presov County with 20.66 percent and Kosice County with 19.58 percent. At the district level, unemployment rate in December decreased in five districts, increased in 73 districts and in one district it remained at November level.
„The highest rate of registered unemployment was in the district of Rimavska Sobota (35.59 percent). It was the lowest in Bratislava I district at 4.15 percent,“ says the Central Office for Labor.
