BRATISLAVA, January 9, (WEBNOVINY) — Opposition SMER-SD leader Robert Fico announced on Monday that his party would seek a partner to form a two-party coalition after the early parliamentary elections. Such a coalition would serve as a control mechanism. “This is a concept of a strong and stable government,” he noted. The election outcome for SMER-SD and what options it will create for the party remain open for the time being.

According to Fico, generosity fits those who are strong. That will be the attitude of his party toward a potential coalition partner. “SMER-SD wants to be part of a government, but it does not want a conglomerate,” Fico emphasized. Other parties, too, must take over responsibility ensuing from the election outcome. “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” he said in response to MOST-HID boss Bela Bugar who recently warned that a government of a center-right party and SMER-SD would ruin the center-right party.

In reaction to the statements of SKDU-DS leader Mikulas Dzurinda who rejected cooperation with SMER-SD after the elections, Fico said that voters would choose from two alternatives in the elections on March 10: chaos or a strong and stable government. “If Mikulas Dzurinda wants a confrontation, we will go into it. We offer a strong government, they [offer] chaos. The dice is cast, “ he noted.

SMER-SD is convinced that Slovakia needs a different kind of government and coalition than a center-right conglomerate. Fico pointed out that the 18-month work of the outgoing government made 72 percent people feel that Slovakia is not on the right track. He also blames the government for price growth and accumulating debts. Fico maintains that the government should be strong, stable, and able to protect the people against implications of the crisis.
