BRATISLAVA, April 16, (WEBNOVINY) — Leader of the strongest opposition party SMER-SD Robert Fico still demands the head of Finance Minister Ivan Miklos. The potential resignation of Tax Directorate Director General Miroslav Mikulcik, demanded by Prime Minister Iveta Radicova, is not enough for him. “Political liability cannot be required from an official because the director of the Tax Directorate, a Mr. Miklos‘ friend, is not a politician, he is an official,” Fico said on air of the Slovak Radio in the Saturday Dialogues program. Political responsibility must be applied to the leader of the corresponding ministry, and “this ministry is lead by Ivan Miklos,” according to the former prime minister. SDKU-DS deputy Ivan Stefanec does not see the slightest reason for Miklos’ departure. “His conduct was transparent; he saved money of taxpayers and contributed to the fact that SDKU-DS representatives have taken action,“ Stefanec defended the minister.
The case of the building rented to the Kosice Tax Office by Nitra Invest, owned by chairman of the SDKU-DS regional organization in Nitra and a company seated in Cyprus is an example of absolute thievery, when the party members settled a lease of a building for SKK 200 million, the SMER-SD chairman announced. The contract was, in his words, overpriced. Thus, the funding mechanism at SDKU-DS via installed Cypriot and other companies has been confirmed because this is another case of SDKU-DS’ financing, he continued to say. Stefanec called these accusations absurd. He also mentioned a recording with a voice similar to Fico’s talking about being clever enough to raise finances. “I say that the 3.5-million-euro higher offer sealed by SMER-SD nominees can as well be used for funding of SMER-SD,” Stefanec countered.
