BRATISLAVA, August 30, (WEBNOVINY) — Six of the fatalities left behind a morning shooting spree in Devinska Nova Ves, a residential district in the western part of Slovakia’s capital of Bratislava, were members of a family, Police Corps President Jaroslav Spisiak told journalists later in the day.

The first police patrols arrived on the scene of the shooting within two minutes after the police received the respective call just after 10:00 a.m. At that time the gunman has already left the apartment block where in one of the homes he shot dead the whole Roma family of four women and one man. Just outside the house, he shot dead another male member of the same family and as he caught sight of approaching police officers, he opened fire on passersby. During his escape attempt he ran just a few meters shooting at each moving target, reported Spisiak.

The police found five killed family members in the flat; four women and one man. The sixth relative was found dead near the entrance to the house. Spisiak said that the seventh dead in the incident was the gunman who committed suicide after he was surrounded by police.

The police said that the gunman was an approximately fifty-years-old man. He shot from an AK-47 and had also two more firearms with him and eight full cartridges. During the police action he also injured a police officer, who was shot in the head. Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic informed that nine persons have been hospitalized after the attack. Devinska Nova Ves was sealed off by police roadblocks and bus service was disrupted there as a result. There was no word about identity of the gunman or his victims at this point.
