BRATISLAVA, December 5, (WEBNOVINY) – On Sunday, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova again confirmed her intention to resign from her post unless the joint candidate of the center-right coalition Jozef Centes is elected to the post of the Prosecutor General on Tuesday. “I have expresses myself very clearly, I will step down,” she responded to the question what she will do if the legislators reelect the incumbent Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka in the secret ballot. The prime minister said in the political program “Na Telo” on TV Markiza that the current form of the secret ballot would not lead to the election of a new prosecutor. “However, this does not mean that the only possible change here is to mull the ballot. I resolutely reject a change to the rules during the game,” she announced and confirmed that the election on Tuesday would be secret. Radicova would be pleased to see a regular second round of the election.

The prime minister opines that some persons may dislike her in the position of the government leader. Sometimes strengthening of positions is a sufficient reason, in her opinion. On the other hand, the steps she has been implementing — from publication of contracts, measures to fight corruption to cancellation of contests — can also be a thorn in someone’s side. She added that these precautions may trigger contempt across the entire political landscape. The prime minister went on to say that a stalemate occurred after three election rounds. “Amid this stalemate six coalition deputies changed their conscience,” Radicova evaluated the present situation. She thinks that those coalition deputies that voted for Trnka have changed their attitude to and opinion on the government program statement. “I firmly believe that the coalition MPs are aware what government program statement they voted for. She has uncertain feelings in this respect and thinks that the opposition perceives the current situation as an opportunity to return to power through the reconstruction of the government.

Radicova refused to say what would happen after her abdication but noted that the ruling coalition would not operate in the present form because of violations of fundamental promises made to citizens. She denied that SDKU-DS would form a coalition with SMER-SD but admitted the possibility that after her resignation the party of Robert Fico may become part of the new government.
