BRATISLAVA, August 2, (WEBNOVINY)- Four deputies for the ruling coalition member the party SaS known as Ordinary People, who made it to parliament from the bottom of the SaS slate with help of preferential votes, are remaining in the SaS deputy club. They made a public promise on Monday that they will not quit the SaS deputy caucus until the end of this election term, informed SaS parliamentary deputy Igor Matovic who is the representative of the Ordinary People civic assocation.
After meeting with Matovic, SaS chairman Richard Sulik informed that SaS and the Ordinary People have concluded a new agreement stipulating that the SaS program will be extended by the points of the Ordinary People’s program on which SaS agrees. It means that the party “will make every effort in pushing through [these points] within the coalition; and during the next update of the government program, it will submit them to be added up to the government’s program,” Sulik explained.
Political scientist Miroslav Kusy suggests that the decision of the Ordinary People quarter could be expected. “With support, they have more weight,” he said. The ruling coalition member, the SMK party stated they are concerned over the state on the political scene representing a potential threat to the ruling coalition.
Though the Ordinary People finally signed an agreement with the SaS, on the ballot of which they made it to parliament, they had held their coalition partners in uncertainty for several days. If they had quit the governing parties would have lost their slim majority in parliament by one single vote. The civic association says they are not happy about the government program as none of their ideas were included in it. They however will support government program despite the fact they lost trust in the new center-right coalition, Matovic stated last week. If they did not vote for the government program, the government would fall; therefore, their inaction would be irresponsible in relations to the people who elected them, he specified.
